Event: 5 September 2019 – Shifting the Power

Shifting the Power: 5th September, 9:30am – 1:00pm, 5th September, National Glass Centre

What happens to our reach and engagement when we start with people not product?

Shifting the Power is a workshop-style event that explores how organisations can share the ‘power’ of developing arts and heritage programmes with their communities. What kind of relationships do you need to support this, both within and outside the organisation, how can you challenge current ways of working and what does moving from consulting to involving the community really look like?

Following six short-fire presentations, there will be time to discuss these questions with peers from across the North East cultural sector. Presenters include Museums Northumberland bait, East Durham Creates, Equal Arts, Streetwise Opera, The Cultural Spring and Unfolding Theatre.

The event will be led by Chrissie Tiller, an experienced workshop facilitator known for her participatory and inclusive approach to creating space for productive conversations. She has written extensively on the notion of power and the importance of reflective practice within more collaborative approaches to working with communities.

The event is free to attend and aimed at senior programming, curatorial and marketing staff from North East arts and heritage organisations.
